When you felt hopeless about a past situation, how did you overcome it?

“I felt stuck with…. But I made it through by…”
“This showed me that I am…”
“I learned that I can…”

A few years back, I felt stuck with a draining job. For a long time nothing changed and I was just spinning my wheels and accepting the stuckness. It eventually got to a point where I had no energy left and I had to start asking for help. People around me encouraged me to set small boundaries, take every change one step at a time. The job didn’t get that much better, but I did, and I left.

I learned that even if something feels hopeless, there’s still a part of me that can make changes. And I guess that even at rock bottom, I can still have that sort of resilience.

Honestly for me it’s about talking to those around me who I trust and love to get through a situation where I’ve felt hopeless. I’m not one to be complacent I need to do something about it

I had to sit 4 exams in a year whilst working a new full time job. I was overwhelmed, I knew I couldn’t commit to every weekend to study. I produced a timetable and I do 40 minutes study per day in the week and 2 1 hour sessions throughout the day each weekend. After a while, the studying became season nature, I didn’t overthink it. Little and often was best to learn the skills to study and I didn’t feel pressured. I passed my exams with ease

I usually start feeling hopeless when I’m in a relationship, especially when I find myself snooping through my partner’s phone. It always happens when I get an unsettling feeling about something they’ve said or done, and I just can’t shake the doubt. When I dig through their phone to see if they’re being truthful, it’s like I’m trying to find something that will either confirm or ease my mind. More often than not, I end up finding that my gut feeling was right, and they’ve been unfaithful. When I find out, it messes with my head. I start to lose my confidence and feel worthless. I second-guess everything, not just about the relationship but about myself. I begin to question what’s wrong with me, why they’re doing this, and what I’m missing. It makes me clingy, desperate for answers or closure that I never really get. It’s like I’m stuck in this loop where I don’t know how to leave because I can’t understand why they would stay with me if they’re also seeing someone else. It changes me as a person, and I start to feel even more lost. I start feeling hopeless, but I’ve noticed that when my partner ends up getting thrown in jail, that’s when I start to feel better. It’s strange, but I know that when they’re in jail, they can’t hurt me or make me feel bad about myself, and they can’t leave me for someone else. It’s almost like a strange sense of peace settles in because I don’t have to worry about them being unfaithful or pulling away. And then, when they’re locked up, they start becoming needy for me, which oddly helps me rebuild my confidence. I know it sounds like a messed-up situation, but in a way, it’s how I’ve been able to get some closure and finally leave the toxic relationship. It’s like I have this time to breathe and start to feel stronger before I can make the decision to walk away.

i’m an addict, a few times I am currently inactive addiction. In the past, I have went to rehab I have reached out for help and I did succeed for a little while and of course it’s gratifying and seems like life couldn’t get no better but then I relapse so I’m not sure if I’ve overcame it or not because now I just stay where I’m scared to even try or I won’t put all my effort in to try because I know I’m gonna fail in the long run.

I get worried about not being enough for my partner. I feel like I need to be perfect all of the time. I’ve had past relationships where I’ve been cheated on and I worry about if my partner will do the same even though he’s shown me signs he’d never do that to me

I refused to accept defeat

I couldn’t get or bring myself to find a part time job for a long time, even though I wanted one because I’d never worked before, and I thought that it would be good for my self confidence and independence. It was hard because I didn’t have the confidence that I could do one, which sounds illogical now, but I believed it. And there were a few things stopping me as well, like how many hours I could work while being at university. But I just kept trying and sticking to applying to jobs that I actually wanted to do, and landed the dream part time job I wanted. I guess I learnt that if I stick to something consistently and believe in putting what I want at the forefront, I can achieve most things I think I can’t do due to confidence

I often feel stuck with many situations, and hopeless. I’ve decided that “hope” is the most addictive drug in this wide world, and there is no antidote, no cure, and no recovery program that can help you through. And to be hopeless is the worst part about it, that’s when you are right in the middle of the worst part of the addiction. But usually when I am there is any situation sexual or not, I often have to seek help from someone to get a different perspective on the issue, I can usually think outside the box about most things, but when it puts me right in the dirty middle and hopeless I can’t think to be honest. But I can overcome and persevere by coupling my own ideas with that other person’s insight, and BOOM success! The dopamine spills out and I am happy and on the positive path again

In the past when I have been stuck, I have over come it by letting it go. But it took time.

I wanted it more than anything, and I refused to let it win, I refused to remain hopeless, and instead of telling myself I can’t do it, I told myself I will do it, there’s no other option, and just wouldn’t give up, if I failed, I’d pick myself back up and try again, if I started thinking negative thoughts, I’d stop myself and erase them out of my mind and continue to speak positivity out loud until I got myself feeling that boost of confidence again. And I actually achieved the outcome I wanted for a very long time. With that I learned alot about myself, I’m very strong minded, Im determined, and I have will power that’s out of this world.

I felt helpless whenever my ex broke up with me this past July. It caused a whole downward spiral, which ultimately caused me to relapse on drugs. I was very hard on myslef, because had I not relapsed, October 16th, 2024 would have been 10 years in recovery for me. But that’s ok, I WILL get back there again, I have not fully overcome the situation, but slowly I am recovering & healing. The me that got lost in the storm has been peaking through the clouds and life is starting to feel sunny & warm again. :yellow_heart:

It’s ok, and you will be ok. I am in the same situation, I relapsed july 2024, I was 3 months away from being 10 years in recovery. But being able to admit you’ve relapsed and acknowledging your desire for change shows you have hope. We both got this, 2026 will be our year!! :white_heart:

I overcame it by being honest with myself and realizing the healing process was going to be a long one but if I didn’t get started and make it to Day 1, I’d never get to the end. So, that day, I started. And about two years later, I was a new woman. At some point we have to stop hyperfocusing on situations we had no control over and asking questions that will never get answered. Why me? What did I do? Did I deserve that? Was it my fault? … all of those questions are pointless to ask. I think that’s where we get hung up the most… once I decided to forgive without “closure” so I could move on, it made things a lot easier.

Getting out of an abusive relationship was a big challenge for me. I was always hoping it would get back to the way it was in the beginning. I finally couldn’t take it anymore. I left and got a restraining order. The only way out was right through that pain.

I was broken after my relationship ended. I felt like I brought it on myself because it was me that ended it. But I knew I had done it because I wanted better for myself long term. It was really hard because the easy thing would have been to stay with him. I went to therapy as I was determined to not feel how I did forever and have worked hard to feel happy in myself . Although I’m still sad and lonely at times I do feel in a better place
